Riviera Maya 2009

Jason and I were lucky enough to go on a long weekend to Mexico at the end of July. We drove up to Bethany with the a carful (boys and dogs and suitcases) on Wednesday night and flew out of KCI on Thursday morning. It was strange to be away from the boys, but I knew they were in good hands. We were able to call and check in a couple time. Jason and I packed a lot of stuff into the short time we were there. Our hotel was 1.5 hours from the Cancun airport so we didn't get there until 6:00 Thursday night. We ate at the buffet, had some drinks, and went swimming. Gotta love all inclusive. Friday we took the bus about a half hour south to Tulum to see some of the Mayan ruins. It was really neat; but super hot and humid. Luckily, there was a beautiful beach there to cool off. The beaches in Riviera Maya are GORGEOUS! Of all the places we have been in Mexico the water was definately the most beautiful there. We came back to the resort and had dinner at the Mediteranean Resturant and watched some of the resort entertainment. Saturday was our big day. We took a cab to Playa Del Carmen where we caught the ferry to Cozumel. We went snorkeling at two different reefs which we loved. Then they took us to eat at a Mexican resturant. We spent the afternoon shopping in Cozumel and at the smallest Hard Rock Cafe in the world (AIR CONDITIONING!) We took the ferry back to Playa Del Carmen for a little shopping and then headed back to the resort. Yes, we took advantage of all the resturants again and had some delicious steak. We decided to spend the final day on the resort. We hung out at the pool all morning, getting our share of the swim up bar. The afternoon we tried to go miniature golfing but the course was really hard and it was WAY to hot so we ended up on the beach until early evening when it started raining. We had supper at the Asian resturant and went back to pack up. We had a 6 am flight from the Cancun airport on Tuesday and the transportation picked us up at.....wait for it.....2:40 am. Insane. We made it back to KC by noon and Rhonda met us at Chilis with the boys and dogs at 1:00. We brought the boys back bibs and maracas which we are sure they love. We will probably have to break our four year streak of going to Mexico next year...we are thinking family vacay with the boys (and posssibly another family or two) 2010! Can't wait.
